Guido Invernizzi presents the wines of Podere Casale
Guido Invernizzi presents the wines of Podere Casale.
What a surprise and honor for me to taste the wines of Nicolas Rigamonti and Podere Casale.
I had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago and there was immediately a great empathy with him and with his wines. When he offered me to taste his wines, I was startled, a gratification comparable to a request to taste noble Gran Crus. Why ? Because Nicolas’ wines are a perfect expression of the territory: where man, vine variety, soil, climate all blend together to best represent the concept of terroir.
.The Etruscans, the Ligurians, the Celts and the Romans had acute foresight and long-term outlook for this wine area: Michelangelo, Verdi, Puccini all had high esteem for these wines.
Four wines, four friends on the table to taste, drink, enjoy, get to know a bit at a time so as to create a relationship, a friendship because wine is alive, a living entity to talk to, to dwell on, measure and exchange emotions.
I will start with the wine having an immediate impact, Ortrugo frizzante to end with the sublime Malvasia Passita, which fully demonstrates how great dessert wines and meditation wines are not necessarily only from the South: in between the red “cult” of the Colli Piacentini, Gutturnio in the frizzante and superior versions.
A beautiful experience, the Beatles would define it A Magical Mystery Tour, through extremely enjoyable wines much less simple than one would imagine at first taste.
ORTRUGO FRIZZANTE 2016
Pale yellow with slight green traces, fine, delicate ,discrete mousse. The nose is fragrant and immediately calls to mind the characteristics of its fresh youth. Notes of white peach, loquat, plum, apple, a touch of citrus on a background of freshly cut grass and white flowers. Medium body, pleasantly pettilant, fresh, rich taste, with a characteristic slightly bitter final note. Ideal as an aperitif, with first courses, vegetables, omlette, and mixed fried fish. To drink young, and serve at 6-8° C..
GUTTURNIO FRIZZANTE 2016
Red ruby violet color, good persistence, fresh, fragrant immediate nose: vinous with scents of red berries, currants, blackberries, strawberries, floral with notes of geraniums. Immediately pleasant mouth-filling, fresh taste, moderate tannin and final notes of almond and chinotto. Clean aftertaste thanks to the acidity and effervescence of the wine. Ideal with cold cuts, and the typically rich dishes of the Emilia Region. Serve at 10-12°c:
GUTTURNIO SUPERIORE 2015
Deep ruby red color. Compact: visibly important structure. A rich nose of mature cherries, raspberries, mulberries, blueberries, herbs, slightly balsamic ,spicy owing to the perfect use of wood that absolutely does not cover the amiability of the varietal character. Dry, direct, with a pseudo caloric effect of very fine alcohol: enveloping, fresh, tasty with dense tannins that gift a pleasant persistent almond aftertaste. If well conserved, it will further evolve in the bottle. Ideal with red meat and game. Serve at 16°C.
MALVASIA PASSITO 2013
Brilliant, luminous golden yellow color. Rich important structure. Intriguing intense nose with notes of dried apricots, peaches in syrup, candied fruit, honey, butterscotch, sage. To the palate, the sweet components are perfectly balanced by the freshness and flavor. Good body, long and persistent in the mouth with a finale almost balsamic and menthol definitely mineral. Ideal with biscuits or desserts with cream. Serve at 10-12°C:
